Quinn's Auction Galleries and Waverly Rare Books & Prints are pleased to offer a Rare Books Catalog Auction on September 13th, 2018 at 6:00PM. The sale features a large and significant group of early printed books and other material spanning the 1400s through the 1700s, including books by Durandus, Bartholomaeus Anglicus, and George Simon Winter, and prints by Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Jacob van Ruisdael, and Lucas van Leyden. In addition, the sale contains books from the personal libraries of Robert Southey and James Boswell, as well as a fine copy of Donald Mennie's Grandeur of the Gorges, complete with original box. We will also offer important Black Americana: the historically important, exceedingly rare,1854 address by Frederick Douglass to the Literary Societies of Western Reserve College, At Commencement; the Archive of printed material and manuscript papers belonging to Charles E. Francis, author of "The Tuskegee Airmen; The Story of the Negro in the U.S. Air Force." Autographs, fine bindings and illustrated works complete our sale.
Part II in our series of Natural World Fine Print Auctions follows our book sale; animals, birds, botanicals, fish, amphibians and reptiles of all kinds are richly represented in a sale of more than 170 lots. Included are bird and quadruped plates from John James Audubon's Octavo and Bien Editions. Other important prints in the sale include works by Basilius Besler, John Gould, Innocente Alessandri, Comte de Buffon, Elizabeth Blackwell, Emanuel Sweerts, and Johann Christoph Volckhamer.
