A letter written by Abraham Lincoln in the early days of the Civil War, a document from 1793 signed by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson; and a rare first-edition copy of Uncle Tom’s Cabin (1852) are a few of the highlight lots. Items from the Kennedy, Nixon, Roosevelt and Truman White House years make up a significant portion of the sale. Items sourced from the private collections of a former Secret Service agent, and Mary B. Gallagher, Jackie Kennedy's personal secretary, provide a unique perspective on the lives of former presidents and their families. In addition to items of Presidential and Americana significance, the sale also offers a fascinating grouping of early religious and Biblical texts, including a first-edition copy of The Gospel According to Saint John, one of 2,000 copies printed by the British and Foreign Bible Society (London, 1804), with text in English and Mohawk Native American.
